1 Find the lord of the Lagna (Ascendant)
2 Count how many houses the lord is placed from Lagna
3 Count the same number of houses from the lord's position
4 The resulting sign is the Arudha Lagna

Formula: AL = Lagna Lord Position + (Lagna Lord Position - Lagna)

Exceptions

Condition: If AL falls in the same sign as Lagna

Rule: Move it to the 10th house from Lagna

Condition: If AL falls in the 7th from Lagna

Rule: Move it to the 4th house from Lagna
