How Vedic Astrology Reads Career Direction

In classical Vedic Jyotish, the question "which career suits me?" is not answered by a single house or a single planet. The reading is built from five independent sources, each carrying classical authority, each refining the others. The tool surfaces all five so the user can audit the reasoning.

The first source is Atmakaraka — Jaimini's soul significator, the planet at the highest degree in the chart. Atmakaraka carries the soul's direction into this life. Work that embodies its themes tends to bring deeper meaning than work that opposes it. The Atmakaraka is not always the dominant career planet — but it's often the planet that, when ignored, leaves a successful career feeling hollow.

The second source is the 10th house lord in the D1 (Rashi) chart — the direct karaka of the karma line. Its sign nature, house placement, and dignity colour the broad career arc.

The third source is the nakshatra lord of the 10th lord. Each nakshatra is ruled by one of the nine grahas; the dispositor refines the broad sign reading with a fine-grained colour. A 10th lord in Capricorn (Saturn-ruled, service-tilting) sitting in Pushya nakshatra (Saturn-ruled) deeply confirms the service direction; the same lord in Shravana nakshatra (Moon-ruled) softens it towards public-facing work.

The fourth source is the 10th house lord in the D10 (Dasamsha) chart — the divisional chart constructed specifically for career analysis. The D10 ascendant and its 10th lord give finer-grained career direction than the D1 alone, particularly when the D1 reading is ambiguous.
