05:35 PM onwards
Choghadiya timings for Chens-sur-Léman on Thursday, 23 October 2025 are calculated from sunrise at 07:02 AM and sunset at 05:35 PM. Each day period lasts approximately 79 minutes and each night period lasts approximately 101 minutes.
Choghadiya (also spelled Chaughadia) is one of the most widely used Vedic muhurat systems in India. The name comes from Cho (four) + Ghadiya (a traditional unit of 24 minutes), indicating that each period originally spanned four ghadiyas — roughly 96 minutes. In practice, the actual duration varies daily because Choghadiya periods are tied to sunrise and sunset, not the clock.
The system divides each day into 16 periods — 8 during daytime (sunrise to sunset) and 8 at night (sunset to next sunrise). Each period is classified into one of 7 types based on its ruling planet, making it simple to quickly judge whether a given time window is favorable, neutral, or unfavorable for a planned activity.

Each Choghadiya period carries the energy of its ruling planet. Three are auspicious, one is neutral (good for travel), and three are inauspicious. Here is the complete classification:
The most auspicious Choghadiya. "Amrit" means nectar — this period is considered blessed for all activities without exception. Ideal for weddings, religious ceremonies, starting new ventures, signing contracts, and any work where you want the best possible outcome. Ruled by the Moon, it brings calm, receptivity, and divine favor.
Auspicious and highly favorable. Ruled by Jupiter (Guru), this Choghadiya brings wisdom, expansion, and blessings. Excellent for religious rituals, puja, educational endeavors, meeting teachers or elders, and activities related to dharma. Marriage ceremonies and naming ceremonies are particularly favored during Shubh Choghadiya.
Gainful and profitable. "Labh" literally means profit — this Choghadiya is ideal for business transactions, financial dealings, bank work, accounting, signing agreements, and intellectual pursuits. Ruled by Mercury (Budh), it sharpens communication, trade instincts, and analytical thinking. A practical choice for everyday commercial activities.
Neutral — specifically good for movement and travel. "Char" means movable, and this Choghadiya is ruled by Venus (Shukra). While not as universally auspicious as Amrit or Shubh, it is the recommended period for starting journeys, shifting residence, buying vehicles, and any activity involving physical movement or change of place.
Anxious and restless. "Udveg" means anxiety — this period is generally avoided for new beginnings. However, because it is ruled by the Sun (Surya), it carries authority energy and is considered acceptable for government-related work, meetings with officials, and matters involving power or status. Avoid for personal celebrations or health matters.
Inauspicious. "Rog" means disease — this Choghadiya is ruled by Mars (Mangal) and carries aggressive, combative energy. Avoid starting any important work, especially related to health, relationships, or finances. The only exception: activities that benefit from Mars energy, such as surgery (when medically urgent), competitive sports, or filing legal disputes.
The most inauspicious Choghadiya. "Kaal" means time (in the sense of death/fate) — ruled by Saturn (Shani), this period brings delays, obstacles, and unfavorable outcomes. Avoid all significant activities: no new ventures, no travel, no ceremonies. Use this time for routine tasks, rest, or activities that don't require a fresh start.
Choose Shubh or Labh Choghadiya for launching a business, starting a new project, or signing important contracts. Labh is especially suited for financial ventures. Avoid Kaal and Rog periods entirely.
Char Choghadiya is specifically designated for travel — the name literally means "movable." For long journeys, Amrit and Shubh are also excellent. Never begin a journey during Kaal or Rog Choghadiya if it can be avoided.
Amrit is the gold standard for weddings and samskaras. Shubh is the next best option. These periods are combined with tithi, nakshatra, and other Panchang factors for comprehensive muhurat selection.
Buying property, gold, vehicles, or electronics? Choose Labh (profit) or Shubh (auspicious) Choghadiya. For vehicle purchases specifically, Char is also favorable since it governs movement.
These Choghadiya timings are calculated for Chens-sur-Léman (46.33°N, 6.27°E) using sunrise at 07:02 AM and sunset at 05:35 PM. The day duration is divided into 8 equal parts for day Choghadiya, and the night duration into 8 equal parts for night Choghadiya.
Since Choghadiya durations depend on the actual length of day and night, they vary by city and season. In summer, day Choghadiya periods in Chens-sur-Léman are longer (because days are longer), and night periods are shorter — the reverse is true in winter. For accurate choghadiya Chens-sur-Léman timings, always use a Choghadiya calculated for your specific city rather than a generic national chart. You can also check today's panchang for Chens-sur-Léman for tithi, nakshatra, and Rahu Kaal timings.
The current Choghadiya in Chens-sur-Léman is Udveg (उद्वेग), running from 02:00 to 03:41. It is classified as Anxious and is ruled by Sun. Only for government work. Ruled by Sun.
Amrit Choghadiya (ruled by Moon) is the best for starting any new work — it is universally auspicious. Shubh (Jupiter) is the second-best choice, especially for religious and educational activities. Labh (Mercury) is ideal specifically for business and financial activities. Avoid starting anything new during Kaal (Saturn), Rog (Mars), or Udveg (Sun) periods.
There are 16 Choghadiya periods in a full day — 8 during daytime (sunrise to sunset) and 8 during nighttime (sunset to next sunrise). Each period is classified into one of 7 types: Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char, Udveg, Rog, or Kaal. The sequence changes based on the weekday, and day and night have different starting sequences.
Choghadiya divides the day into 16 periods (8 day + 8 night) and classifies each by auspiciousness — Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char, Udveg, Rog, or Kaal. It answers: "Is this time good or bad?" Hora divides the day into 24 periods (12 day + 12 night) and assigns a ruling planet to each using the Chaldean order. It answers: "Which planet rules this time?" For a complete muhurat analysis, practitioners use both together — check which Hora planet favors your activity, then confirm the Choghadiya is supportive.
Travel during Udveg is generally not recommended. The best Choghadiya for travel is Char (चर), which literally means "movable" and is specifically designed for journeys. Amrit and Shubh are also good alternatives. If you must travel during Udveg, it is better than Rog or Kaal, but Char should always be your first choice for departures.
Yes. The first Choghadiya of the day depends on the weekday. For example, Sunday starts with Udveg, Monday starts with Amrit, Tuesday starts with Rog, and so on. After the first period, the remaining 7 day Choghadiyas follow a fixed cycle: Char → Labh → Amrit → Kaal → Shubh → Rog → Udveg (with the starting point shifted). The night sequence has its own starting order. This means the same time window can be Amrit on one day and Kaal on another.
