সম্পর্কে বাংলা পঞ্জিকা

The Bengali Calendar (Bangla Panjika / Bangabda) is a solar calendar with 12 months and 6 seasons. The new year — Pohela Boishakh — is celebrated on April 14/15, when the Sun enters Mesha (Aries). It uses the Bengali San era, established by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century to align tax collection with harvest cycles.

बंगाली कैलेंडर सौर है — 12 महीने और 6 ऋतुएँ। नववर्ष पोहेला बोइशाख 14-15 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है।

The Bengali Calendar (Bangabda) was instituted by Mughal Emperor Akbar around 1556 CE by combining the existing Hindu solar calendar with the Hijri lunar reckoning — to create a calendar that aligned tax collection with the harvest cycle. It is a solar calendar in the same lineage as the Tamil and Malayalam calendars: months are determined by the Sun's sidereal position. The Bangabda starts approximately 593 years before Gregorian — so 2026 CE corresponds to 1432-1433 Bangabda. The new year (Pohela Boishakh) is celebrated grandly across West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Bengali diaspora communities with cultural programs, Mangal Shobhajatra processions, and the opening of new account books (Halkhata).

What are the 12 Bengali months?

Boishakh (বৈশাখ), Joishtho (জ্যৈষ্ঠ), Ashadh (আষাঢ়), Shraban (শ্রাবণ), Bhadro (ভাদ্র), Ashwin (আশ্বিন), Kartik (কার্তিক), Agrahayan (অগ্রহায়ণ), Poush (পৌষ), Magh (মাঘ), Falgun (ফাল্গুন), Choitro (চৈত্র). The year ends on Chaitra Sankranti (April 13).
