Snana Mantra

ॐ आपो हि ष्ठा मयोभुवस्ता न ऊर्जे दधातन । महेरणाय चक्षसे ॥ यो वः शिवतमो रसस्तस्य भाजयतेह नः । उशतीरिव मातरः ॥

Om āpo hi ṣṭhā mayobhuvastā na ūrje dadhātana | Maheraṇāya cakṣase || Yo vaḥ śivatamo rasastasya bhājayateha naḥ | Uśatīriva mātaraḥ ||

O waters, you are the source of happiness, grant us nourishment, for great vision. Share with us your most auspicious essence, like loving mothers.

Guru Vakya (Teacher's Parting Instructions)

ॐ सत्यं वद । धर्मं चर । स्वाध्यायान्मा प्रमदः । आचार्याय प्रियं धनमाहृत्य प्रजातन्तुं मा व्यवच्छेत्सीः ॥

Om satyaṃ vada | Dharmaṃ cara | Svādhyāyānmā pramadaḥ | Ācāryāya priyaṃ dhanamāhṛtya prajātantuṃ mā vyavacchetsīḥ ||

Speak the truth. Practice Dharma. Do not neglect self-study. Having brought beloved wealth to the teacher, do not cut the line of progeny.

Snataka Ashirvada

ॐ विद्यां चाविद्यां च यस्तद्वेदोभयं सह । अविद्यया मृत्युं तीर्त्वा विद्ययामृतमश्नुते ॥

Om vidyāṃ cāvidyāṃ ca yastadvedobhayaṃ saha | Avidyayā mṛtyuṃ tīrtvā vidyayāmṛtamaśnute ||

One who knows both knowledge and ignorance (action) together, by ignorance (action) crosses over death, and by knowledge attains immortality.

Departure Blessing

ॐ तच्छं योरा वृणीमहे गातुं यज्ञाय गातुं यज्ञपतये । दैवी स्वस्तिरस्तु नः स्वस्तिर्मानुषेभ्यः । ऊर्ध्वं जिगातु भेषजं शं नो अस्तु द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे ॥

Om tacchaṃ yorā vṛṇīmahe gātuṃ yajñāya gātuṃ yajñapataye | Daivī svastitrastu naḥ svastirmānuṣebhyaḥ | Ūrdhvaṃ jigātu bheṣajaṃ śaṃ no astu dvipade śaṃ catuṣpade ||

We choose that blessing for the path of sacrifice and its lord. May divine welfare be ours and human welfare. May medicine rise upward; may there be well-being for the two-footed and four-footed.
