Lakshmi and Bali

When Lord Vishnu became the doorkeeper of demon king Bali, Lakshmi wanted him back. She tied a rakhi on Bali's wrist, and when he asked what she wanted, she requested Vishnu's return. Touched by the gesture, Bali freed Vishnu.

Rani Karnawati and Humayun

When threatened by Bahadur Shah, Rani Karnawati of Mewar sent a rakhi to Mughal Emperor Humayun, seeking his protection. Though he arrived late, he honored the rakhi bond.
