Mythology & Legends

Ancient Vedic tradition of honoring ancestors who have passed on, believing their souls visit during this period.

Karna and the Golden Mountain

After death, Karna found only gold in heaven as food because he had given only gold in charity, never food. On Yama's advice, he returned to earth for 16 days to donate food. These 16 days became Pitru Paksha.

Lord Rama performed Pinda Daan at Gaya for his father Dasharatha. Sita performed the ritual when Rama was away, witnessed by Falguni river, Tulsi, cow, and Brahmin. Gaya became the supreme tirtha for Shraddha.
