Krishna and Kaliya

Astika Saves Nagas

When King Janamejaya performed a Sarpa Satra (snake sacrifice) to avenge his father's death by Takshaka, young Astika (nephew of Vasuki) stopped the sacrifice and saved the Naga race. This day commemorates their survival.
