What is Shubh Muhurat? शुभ मुहूर्त

Shubh Muhurat (शुभ मुहूर्त) is the auspicious window of time, calculated from Vedic Panchang, when celestial energies favor a specific activity. Each day has multiple shubh and ashubh windows determined by tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, and karana — collectively the five panchang elements (panchanga).

In Sanatana Dharma, every moment carries a unique cosmic signature — determined by the angular positions of the Sun and Moon, the day of the week, the lunar mansion (nakshatra), the soli-lunar combination (yoga), and the half-tithi (karana). 'Shubh Muhurat' is the practice of selecting moments where these influences align favorably for a specific activity. Different activities require different muhurat criteria — a wedding muhurat differs from a business launch muhurat, which differs from a journey muhurat. Universal auspicious windows like Abhijit Muhurat (the 8th muhurat of the day) and Brahma Muhurta (96 minutes before sunrise) are good for nearly any new beginning.
