In ancient times, there lived a wealthy merchant in a city. His wife's name was Chandrika. She was very beautiful and religious. She observed the Mangal Gauri Vrat every year during the month of Shravan. Her husband had to travel to distant lands for trade. Once he went for maritime trade and did not return for a long time. Chandrika became very worried. She started worshipping Mangala Gauri Mata with even more devotion. Every day she prayed to the Goddess for her husband's well-being. One day, Goddess Gauri appeared in her dream and said - Daughter! Do not worry. Your husband is safe and will return soon. Chandrika's faith became even stronger. She continued to observe the vrat regularly.

प्राचीन काल में एक नगर में एक धनी व्यापारी रहता था। उसकी पत्नी का नाम चंद्रिका था। वह बहुत सुंदर और धर्मपरायण थी। वह प्रतिवर्ष श्रावण मास में मंगला गौरी व्रत करती थी। उसके पति को व्यापार के लिए दूर देश जाना पड़ता था। एक बार वह समुद्री व्यापार के लिए गया और बहुत समय तक नहीं लौटा। चंद्रिका बहुत चिंतित हुई। उसने मंगला गौरी माता की पूजा और भी अधिक श्रद्धा से करनी शुरू की। वह प्रतिदिन माता से अपने पति की कुशलता की प्रार्थना करती। एक दिन स्वप्न में माता गौरी ने दर्शन दिए और कहा - बेटी! चिंता मत करो। तुम्हारे पति सकुशल हैं और जल्दी ही लौटेंगे। चंद्रिका का विश्वास और भी दृढ़ हो गया। वह नियमित रूप से व्रत करती रही।

The merchant's ship was at sea. Suddenly a terrible storm came. The waves were touching the sky. All the merchants and sailors became frightened. The merchant prayed to God - O Lord! My wife is waiting for me. Please save me. At that very moment, a divine light appeared in the sky. It was Goddess Gauri. She calmed the storm with her divine power. The merchant and everyone else were saved. The ship safely reached the shore. The merchant looked at the sky and thanked the Goddess. He understood that this was the result of his wife's devotion.

व्यापारी का जहाज समुद्र में था। अचानक भयंकर तूफान आ गया। लहरें आसमान को छू रही थीं। सभी व्यापारी और नाविक डर गए। व्यापारी ने भगवान से प्रार्थना की - हे प्रभु! मेरी पत्नी मेरी प्रतीक्षा कर रही है। कृपया मुझे बचाइए। उसी समय आकाश में एक दिव्य ज्योति प्रकट हुई। वह देवी गौरी थीं। उन्होंने अपनी दिव्य शक्ति से तूफान को शांत कर दिया। व्यापारी और सभी लोग बच गए। जहाज सुरक्षित किनारे पर पहुंच गया। व्यापारी ने आकाश की ओर देखा और देवी को धन्यवाद दिया। उसे समझ में आ गया कि यह उसकी पत्नी की भक्ति का फल है।

The merchant returned to his city. He had brought immense wealth. When he saw his wife Chandrika, tears of joy came to his eyes. Chandrika asked - My lord! Where were you for so many days? I was very worried. The merchant narrated the entire incident at sea - When the storm came, a goddess saved us. I believe it was the fruit of your devotion. Chandrika said - I observe the vrat of Mata Gauri. She had given me darshan in a dream and told me that you are safe. The merchant said - From today, I have also become a devotee of Mata Gauri. Your devotion has protected our family. Together they performed a grand puja of Mata Gauri and donated a portion of their wealth.

व्यापारी अपने नगर लौटा। वह अपार धन लेकर आया था। जब उसने अपनी पत्नी चंद्रिका को देखा, तो उसकी आंखों में खुशी के आंसू आ गए। चंद्रिका ने पूछा - स्वामी! आप इतने दिनों तक कहां थे? मैं बहुत चिंतित थी। व्यापारी ने समुद्र की पूरी घटना बताई - जब तूफान आया था, तब एक देवी ने हमें बचाया। मुझे विश्वास है कि वह तुम्हारी भक्ति का फल था। चंद्रिका ने कहा - मैं माता गौरी का व्रत करती हूं। उन्होंने ही मुझे स्वप्न में दर्शन दिए थे और कहा था कि आप सकुशल हैं। व्यापारी ने कहा - आज से मैं भी माता गौरी का भक्त बन गया। तुम्हारी भक्ति ने हमारे परिवार की रक्षा की है। उन्होंने मिलकर माता गौरी की भव्य पूजा की और धन का एक भाग दान किया।

In the same city, there was another woman named Kamala. She was also married but had no interest in vrats and fasting. Her mother-in-law said - Daughter-in-law! You should observe the Mangal Gauri Vrat. This will increase your husband's life and the family will remain happy. Kamala said - These are all old customs. I don't believe in all this. The mother-in-law tried to explain many times but Kamala did not agree. After some time, her husband fell seriously ill. Many physicians came but there was no benefit. Then the mother-in-law said - Now go to the refuge of Mangala Gauri Mata. Kamala realized her mistake. She immediately resolved to observe the Mangal Gauri Vrat.

उसी नगर में एक और महिला थी जिसका नाम कमला था। वह भी विवाहित थी परंतु व्रत-उपवास में उसकी कोई रुचि नहीं थी। उसकी सास ने कहा - बहू! तुम मंगला गौरी का व्रत करो। इससे तुम्हारे पति की आयु बढ़ेगी और परिवार सुखी रहेगा। कमला ने कहा - ये सब पुराने रीति-रिवाज हैं। मैं इन सबमें विश्वास नहीं करती। सास ने बहुत समझाया परंतु कमला नहीं मानी। कुछ समय बाद उसके पति को गंभीर बीमारी हो गई। कई वैद्य आए परंतु कोई फायदा नहीं हुआ। तब सास ने कहा - अब तो मंगला गौरी माता की शरण में जाओ। कमला को अपनी गलती का अहसास हुआ। उसने तुरंत मंगला गौरी व्रत करने का संकल्प किया।

Kamala performed the Mangal Gauri Vrat according to the proper method. She sincerely asked for forgiveness from the Goddess and prayed for her husband's health. Goddess Gauri was pleased with her devotion. Gradually, her husband's health started improving. In no time, he was completely healthy. Kamala touched her mother-in-law's feet and said - Mother! You showed me the right path. I will observe the Mangala Gauri Mata's vrat throughout my life. The mother-in-law blessed her - Daughter! May Mata Gauri always protect you. The woman who observes this vrat with devotion, Mata herself protects her suhag (married status). From that day, Kamala started observing the Mangal Gauri Vrat regularly and her family lived happily. कमला ने विधिपूर्वक मंगला गौरी व्रत किया। उसने सच्चे मन से माता से क्षमा मांगी और अपने पति के स्वास्थ्य के लिए प्रार्थना की। माता गौरी उसकी भक्ति से प्रसन्न हुईं। धीरे-धीरे उसके पति का स्वास्थ्य ठीक होने लगा। कुछ ही समय में वह पूर्णतः स्वस्थ हो गया। कमला ने अपनी सास के चरण छुए और कहा - माता जी! आपने मुझे सही रास्ता दिखाया। मैं जीवन भर मंगला गौरी माता का व्रत करूंगी। सास ने आशीर्वाद दिया - बेटी! माता गौरी सदा तुम्हारी रक्षा करें। जो महिला श्रद्धापूर्वक यह व्रत करती है, उसके सुहाग की रक्षा स्वयं माता करती हैं। उस दिन से कमला नियमित रूप से मंगला गौरी व्रत करने लगी और उसका परिवार सुखी रहने लगा। जो विवाहित स्त्री श्रद्धापूर्वक मंगला गौरी का व्रत करती है, उसके पति की आयु बढ़ती है, परिवार में सुख-समृद्धि आती है और सभी मनोकामनाएं पूर्ण होती हैं। ॥ इति श्री मंगला गौरी व्रत कथा संपूर्णम् ॥ ॥ जय माता गौरी ॥
