Observe full-day fast or one-meal-only fast. No grains, beans, onion, garlic, meat. Fruits, milk, water permitted.

  2. 2

About 1.5 hours before sunset, take a clean bath. Wear white or red clothes. Apply bhasma (sacred ash) or sandalwood tilak. Pradosh Kaal is the 90-minute window straddling sunset (45 mins before to 45 mins after sunrise per shastra; some traditions extend to 3 hours).

  3. 3

    Shiva Puja in Pradosh Kaal

Setup Shivlinga (or photo of Shiva-Parvati). Offer water/milk abhishek (rudra-abhishek if available). Bel patra (3 leaves), white flowers, dhatura, bhasma, dhoop, deepak. Recite Mahamrityunjaya, Shiv Tandav Stotram, or Shiv Chalisa. Read the Pradosh Vrat Katha.

  4. 4

    Aarti and Prasad

Perform Shiv aarti. Offer naivedya (food offering): kheer, fruits, dry fruits. Distribute prasad after aarti.

  5. 5

    Parana

After Pradosh Kaal completes (post-sunset), break the fast with the prasad. Some keep continued fast till next morning. No alcohol, no meat that night.
